The Early Years

The Sodfather Sod Supply traces back to the mid 2000's when a High School Football player started his summer job as a laborer for a local Sod Installation Company. From that, a Passion was Ignited in the young man, and in 2008, he started a local business that came to be known as We Sod It Landscaping.

 

For over a Decade, the young man, who came to be known as "Jay from We Sod It" worked tirelessly to provide Calgary and Area with Top Quality Landscaping at Industry Leading Competitive Pricing.

 

The Dedication to Customer Service, Hard Work and Quality Projects proved to be a Winning Advantage and as the business continued to Grow, he was able to secure an Industry Leading Price Advantage to Sod and Other Various Landscaping Materials. 

As a Volunteer in the Community, and a Deep Seeded Belief in Giving Back, Jay from We Sod It then made the decision to expand his focus towards providing Calgary and Area with Quality Sod and Landscape Materials at Affordable Pricing and Dependable Service. With that Goal in mind, The Sodfather Sod Supply was Born.

Navigating a Changing World

The Sodfather quickly gained popularity in Residential Sod Sales. This was due to a prevalence of old, moldy overpriced sod being sold by Big Box Stores and Garden Centre's. Sod to them was a secondary product. It was ordered in bulk and left to sit in the sun until it was purchased. 

The Advantage Became Very Clear. The Sodfather Sod Supply was able to deliver High Quality Sod directly to the customer, within hours of it being cut at the farm. This would allow for Incredibly Fresh Installations! And for Supply, the cost of To-Your-Door delivery was equal to or lower than that of the Box Stores.

When the Pandemic took hold of the World in 2020, Jay knew he had to listen to the concerns of his customers in order to navigate the changing landscape of product Supply and Installation. In viewing his business as a Customer First Business, he realized these key issues: In this Uncertain Time, Money was Tight, People were stuck at Home.

These things created an appetite for Folks to take on their own projects while they were stuck at home, because, after all, their kids still needed somewhere to run around and play! Not to mention they needed an outdoor space to enjoy Dinners, Family and the Summer Sun.

Jumping into Action, Jay "Pivoted" how he would deliver Sod to homeowners, turning The Sodfather Website into an E-Commerce Based Business, Allowing Folks to Order Sod in "3 Clicks" and Offering Next Morning Guaranteed Fresh Delivery.

This Proved to be the key ingredient to providing Unparalleled Customer Service and Quality on Every Order! Quick, Easy and Affordable, Folks could Order Sod at 10pm the Night Before and would have it at Their Door at 10am the next day!

 

Setting The Standard

Since 2020, The Sodfather Sod Supply has grown to become Calgary and Area's Leading Residential Sod Supplier! Averaging over 1,000,000sq.ft. of Sod Sold/Installed Annually, The Sodfather prides itself on Top Notch Customer Service, Whether Your Order is 100sq.ft. or 1000sq.ft. This Mantra led to The Alberta Chamber of Commerce Presenting The Sodfather with The Alberta Business Award of Distinction in Customer Services for the 2021 Season!

Continuing to Set The Standard of Customer Service, in 2021 The Sodfather created the DIY "Sod-u-Cation". A How-To Resource to to provide Folks with the basic knowledge, know how and instruction on completing their very own Landscape Project. This has now been Streamlined into our How-To Section that will be an Ever Evolving Library of Information!

in 2022, Jay continued to listen to his clients, realizing that ordering and scheduling materials from different suppliers created confusion and stress for customers. If the Sod was there, but the Soil wasn't, the sod may perish before it can be installed. This would equate to wasted money and unusable product.

Jay sought to flip the script, and in 2022 The Sodfather launched Calgary's First Ever "Sod & Soil Package", which included Dual Delivery Dates with No Extra Fees. This allowed folks to work on the soil at their leisure. Knowing The Sodfather offers unparalleled turnaround time on Sod Delivery, they could now get the sod when it was advantageous to them. This has been a proven game changer for Clients Young and Old!

To this Day, The Sodfather continues to redefine The Standard in Service, Which they call The Gold Standard in Green. It is born out of, and inspired by, the Appreciation of All The Wonderful Customers that Have Supported Them throughout The Years.
